Caitlin, you’re the best curator! I always save your post and parcel out your articles over the next several days and I’ve got a lot to look forward to this week. Thanks a bunch.
I'm a fan of Cal Newport, but I suspect he belongs to that rarefied class of creatives/media professionals who can opt out of social because they already have access to a massive audience (via The New Yorker, a major publishing house, etc). I'd like to be wrong about that, though!
And even in the old-fashioned environment, that was undoubtedly more realistic for certain people. Really interesting to revisit some of those ideas now.
I saw frame TV's at CeBIT in Las Vegas and at a CE show in Tokyo around the same time. I guess they are having another go. Given they are cheaper than the new Facebook goggles, I guess they still have potential.

I appreciate that, thank you!! Happy reading. :)
Great read! Re: personal brand, Cal Newport offers a refreshing take on succeeding as an author and podcaster without engaging on social media.

Very true. He started building an audience the old fashioned way a long time ago and is probably grandfathered in to some extent.
His refrain of being so good that you can’t be ignored is aspirational but I wonder how realistic it is in today’s environment.
